Produced by the silkworm, Bombyx mori, which only eats mulberry leaves, these cocoons are created from a continuous thread of raw silk, measuring anywhere from 300 - 900 metres long. They house the silkworm as it turns into a pupa before emerging as a fully formed adult silkworm moth. Originating in China, the fine and lustrous silk filaments from silk cocoons have been used in textile production for centuries.
