Recycling silk wedding saris is a cottage industry run by women in villages around Bangalore, India. Each silk hank has it's own unique rustic character, with a mix of fabric textures in varying widths, raw edges and irregular sewn and knotted joins. 

Locally the ribbon is botanically dyed-by-hand - a slow, multi-step process of preparing the fabric and extracting colours, often with locally foraged plants. Each bobbin is unique, as no two dye pots are the same, irregularities in texture and colour are part of their natural, handmade charm.

Sold individually, choose from bobbins in two sizes, in a range of colours:

Large - with approx 5 metres of ribbon - bobbin measures 6cm tall x 4cm diameter

Small - with approx 2 metres of ribbon - bobbin measures 4.5cm tall x 3cm diameter

Natural colours evolve over time, as all things in nature do. Exposure to sun hastens the process. 

I do my best to represent colours accurately, naturally dyed textiles reflect different tones and depths of colour in different lights. Please allow for variations with different screens and monitors.
