Vintage Siam Silver niello goddess flower shaped brooch pin.
Features eight different etchings depicting Mekkalah the Hindu Goddess of Lightning.
Niello is a black mixture, usually sulphur, copper, silver and lead, used as an inlay in engraved or etched metal. It is added as a powder or paste, then fired until it melts and fills the engraved lines. It blackens when cool, and is polished off to reveal the design.
Marked on reverse 'Siam Sterling' these brooches were very popular during the 1940s -1970s.
